Query

Our world is messed up. Lots of bad things happen all the time. We all know this... it seems like politics are all about how *someone* thinks we should be going about fixing things.

So, here's my question:

How would you fix the world? Seriously. If you had the authority, and could do anything and everything, what would be your plan for fixing what's wrong with this world? What would you start with? What would you change?

and please be specific. I've heard lots of philosophy... I want to know what you would actually DO...

At least answer this - with the ability to do anything, what would be the first thing you do?

On the subject of bicycles.

On Monday I helped my Dad finish cleaning out our garage for the winter. After cleaning off some shoes that had some cement-like mud caked on them, and washing about a hundred (ok, more like a dozen) outdoor mats, I had the *difficult* task of riding our old bikes to see if they still worked.

It was so much fun! I haven't ridden a bike in probably 6 years (since we moved to our new house), and I had forgotten how much I love it, and how fun it is. It also brought back all these happy memories from the old days in the neighborhood we grew up in. It was a great neighborhood; most of my childhood memories are of running around with friends - catching fireflies, playing soccer, biking all over the place, building huts made entirely out of cornstalks (you could have lived in that thing, if you had to) in the field behind our backyard... it was idyllic. And biking is a big part of those memories.

My first bike was purple; with a banana seat, pictures of unicorns and stars, and beads on the spokes that made a fun noise when you rode. It had detachable training wheels, and after I learned on those, it was really hard to give them up! It took me a while to learn how to balance on my own. Papa taught me; he would go behind me, holding onto the back of the seat... funny how you can remember all this stuff from so long ago! That bike had been Michelle's, and after I outgrew it, I got Erick's old bike. This one was black and red, and I liked it! Both of these had the awesome braking method known as "back pedaling". It's amazing how quick your back-pedal reflexes get when that's your only way of stopping...

Then! After I got too big for the red/black one (this has been a constant trend in my growing up - getting to tall for things), we went to Farm 'n Fleet, and I got to pick out my very own 10 speed bike! So much fun. The one I picked was this very cool color of teal (remember: this is sometime circa 1996), and had bright pink accessories. I loved it. We still have that one, but unfortunately, I outgrew it several years back. I rode it around on Monday, and it worked! But I felt like those clowns on tricycles. :)

Tricycles! We had an awesome one of those, too...

the road goes ever on and on...

Tomorrow we are leaving to go to Seattle for three weeks. woohoo! The first week will be an SLT Intensive; and then after that Kristi and I just get to hang out with Erick. He'll obviously be working every day, and will be studying at night, but it'll be so nice to just be able to hang out again! and we'll be doing some fun stuff, and hopefully being able to spend time with other people... and see Seattle!

some goals for the trip:

1. lose weight. (ok, this one isn't so much for the trip, per se, but just for me, now, in general)which means: eat less, but more often; go walking most days. Erick lives right down the street (I think) from Lake Washington, and a cute shopping district (downtown Kirkland?). so walking around for excersize should be enjoyable.
2. catch up on rest. while Erick's at work, Kristi and I will just be hanging out at his place! sleeping in, reading, watching the second season of BSG on BetaMax, hanging out with some peeps, maybe. I'm so looking forward to it!

I just finished mowing the yard, so now all I have to do is get packed! :) and hopefully I do a better job packing then I did for the Plymouth trip. haha, I felt like I had no outfits to wear at all! it wasn't good.

alrighty... off to pack!

now I'm back!

I found my Blogspot again! I forgot my username/password, so I couldn't log in for a while.

I really don't know what to do about this journal... I already have a LiveJournal (which will always be my main blogging forum), and a Xanga (which I don't keep up well at all). What I really need to do is get one of those "all-in-one" programs, so I can post to all three at once. But my audiences are so different on the different sites... so I don't even really know if that's what I want.

Well anyway! :)

Does anyone know if you can have friends on this thing? is there some sort of friends page (/subscription) thing?
